No easy prey!

Did a lil creature design elective this semester - and since I really love bugs, I wanted to experiment more with insectoid designs!
With these two, the Stagbeetle and Antlion, I combined bug anatomy with more familiar, mammalian builds. I also did the obvious thing and combined the bugs with their namesakes, creating a stag-like herbivore and a stalking predator much like a large feline.
Another intention was to make them look natural, not too flashy, so you could really imagine them existing in their natural habitats!

I had lots of fun designing these two and plan to turn them into 3d models, but I'm hoping to do much more with arthropods as inspiration!!
